Pearl of Allah

PEARL OF ALLAH

The Pearl of Allah is the largest pearl on record.

The Pearl of Allah was discovered in 1934 off the coast of the Palawan Island in the Philippines. The pearl's name comes from the its unique resemblance to that of a turbaned man.

The pearl made its way to America with Wilburn Cobb in 1939. Cobb received the pearl as a gift from a Philippine Chief in exchange for saving the chief's son's life.

The Pearl of Allah measures 9.45 inches long, weighing 14 pounds. The pearl almost resembles porcelain, a characteristic attributed to the interior of the clam from which it was retrieved.

While the Pearl of Allah is currently not on public display, it was for a brief time at Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum in New York City.
