Akoya Pearl Grading

AKOYA PEARL GRADING

Over the past eight decades, Mastoloni has cultivated a reputation for honesty, integrity and value. Our association with pearl excellence started from the beginning when we committed to maintaining the strictest quality standards of cultured pearl sorting and grading.

WHY MASTOLONI IS THE STANDARD FOR JAPANESE AKOYA PEARL GRADING

A large part of maintaining these high standards is educating Mastoloni's ever-expanding network of authorized retailers about the nuances and workings of the cultured pearl industry. Due to our tireless commitment to pearl excellence, product education and consistency, the Mastoloni name is considered one of the most trusted in the world's jewelry industry.

MASTOLONI'S SORTING AND GRADING STANDARDS

*listed in order of importance

Luster and Orient: the mirror-like reflection and degree of surface brilliance
Nacre (Pearl Skin): the thickness and density of nacre
Color: the varying degree of hue, from silver/white to rose
Shape: the degree of roundness; shapes range from perfectly circular to baroque
Matching: the consistency of color, shape, gradation, etc. of each pearl within the strand
Spotting: the small blemishes on the nacre—though naturally occurring during the pearl's formation, less spotting is more desirable
