Thank you
Elizabeth Taylor was a woman known to have an endless passion for fine jewelry. A style icon, Taylor was most certainly one of the most well-known pearl champions. Taylor's personal jewelry collection rivaled those of royal families and aristocracies and; though, she was most famously known for La Peregrina Pearl, her collection housed several stunning pearl jewelry creations. Mastoloni's favorite pieces are an antique pearl and diamond necklace, a pair of pearl and diamond pendant earrings and a glass, enamel and pearl brooch.
The antique pearl and diamond necklace sold in the 2004 Christie's New York auction of Taylor's jewels for $1,482,500. Comprised of round and drop-shape pearls and countless carats of diamonds, this necklace is a true piece of art.
A pair of diamond and cultured pearl ear pendants, designed by Ruser circa 1960, were worn by Taylor at the 1960 Academy Awards. The earring pendants feature two white, drop-shape cultured pearls suspended from cascades of white diamonds. Taylor won her first Oscar that year and while she was only able to manage a breathy 'thank you' during her acceptance speech, she surely wowed the crowd with these exquisite pearl and diamond earrings.
A third piece of note is an Art Nouveau glass, enamel and pearl brooch by Rene Lalique. This colorful beauty features gold serpents, accented with blue and green enamel, that frame a medusa head. A single white pearl is suspended from the serpents' tails, a trademark of Lalique's designs. The brooch fetched a nice $566,500 at auction.
Elizabeth Taylor's timeless collection of pearls and other fine gems truly speak to her endless passion for jewelry. For this reason, among many others, Taylor will never be forgotten.
