The Peacock Throne, designed by Austin de Bordeaux who also designed the Taj Mahal, was owned by the Moguls in the 17th century. It contains a vast amount of pearls and other gems, the most at this time.

There were many pearls covering the throne on its arches and pillars. Most of the pearls on the Peacock Throne were valuable but one pearl was particularly extravagant. It was pear-shaped, yellowish pearl that weighed around 50 carats. It hung from a great ruby on the breast of the peacock, as told by Tavernier in 1676. There were also columns that held up the canopy for the throne which were covered in rows of 6-10 carat pearls, making this throne a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

With all of its gems in place the Peacock Throne would be worth $50,187,500. However because of its history and the amount of times it has been transported, as it stands now in the shah’s palace in Tehran, Iran, it is valued at $13,000,000.
