In the 19th century, Henry Phillip Hope of London brought together a collection of precious gems. Among these gems was the Hope Pearl. This was the largest of the collection and is still one of the largest pearls in the world.

The Hope Pearl is an irregular pear-shaped pearl and is about 450 carats. It is two inches long and is four and half inches in diameter. The color at one end is white and the other is more of a bronze or green tint. The Hope Pearl is considered baroque and currently has a home in the Natural History Museum in London. It is now capped with a crown at one end that consists of rubies, diamonds and emeralds.

The entire Hope Collection consists of about 148 pearls, all of which have pretty good form. These pearls contain many different colors ranging from a dark bronze color to shades of blue and pink.
