Queen Victoria Brooch

Queen Victoria Brooch

In 1843, Prince Albert of England designed a brooch for his wife, Queen Victoria, on their third wedding anniversary.  The brooch contains a gold heart with a crown on top of it.  The crown is topped with four Scottish freshwater pearls that were highly prized at the time.  The brooch is Elizabethan-style and contains not only pearls, but amethysts and garnets as well.

The brooch now belongs to the Munn family of London and traveled with the “Pearls: A Natural History” exhibit organized by the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
