The Queen Pearl or the Paterson Pearl, is one of the first fresh water pearls to ever be found in the United States. It was discovered in 1857, in Notch Brook, New Jersey. The Queen Pearl is described in “The Book of Pearl” by Kunz and Stevenson, as a pink, speherical pearl weighing 23.25 carats. It was bought by Tiffany & Co for $1,500 and eventually was brought to Paris and sold to Empress Eugenie de Montijo.

It is uncertain of the whereabouts of the Queen Pearl today, however many people believe that a baroque pearl attached to a snake stickpin could be the missing pearl. After many decades, it was found in the Cooper-Hewitt Museum as part of the Evans Collection. It contains the same colors and is the exact same weight. Although not as perfect of a sphere, scientists are almost certain that this is the missing Queen Pearl.
