Around the time of the Renaissance in 1300, the Loch Buy Brooch was used to secure a brat or a cloth, around the shoulder or chest of a man. The brooch is made of silver gilt and rock crystal and has a compartment on it which was used to carry various items.

The pearls on the brooch are Scottish freshwater and cap off ten little towers of silver that surround the crystal in the middle. On the back of the brooch it is said to have been found in Macleans of Lockbuy in Mull. This brooch is now in the British Museum in London.
