Arco-Valley Pearl

The Arco-Valley Pearl is a baroque, natural, saltwater pearl weighing 575 carats. It dates back to the 11^th century and is said to have been owned by several emperors and travelers including Marco Polo and Genghis Kahn. The pearl has always remained in Europe and ended up with an Austrian family, the Arco-Valleys.

The Arco-Valley Pearl is a white blister pearl that has shades of blue and pink. It is the second largest natural pearl in the world, next to the Pearl of Allah, however it is nacreous which does not give it the porcelain effect. There are holes in parts of the pearls which suggest that it was once used in a tiara or a crown.

The Arco-Valley Pearl was unseen for many years until 2007 when the pearl was put up for auction in Abu Dhabi. It was valued at $8 million, however it is not known where exactly the pearl was sold to but it is said to have a home somewhere in Europe.
