The Aphrodite Pin dates back to around 300 BC and was found in a sanctuary of Aphrodite in Phapos, on the Southwestern coast of Cyprus. Among the many symbols that are associated with Aphrodite, pearls are one of them and pearls are also one of the reasons why this pin is so significant.
This pin is one of the oldest pieces of jewelry to ever be crafted with a pearl. Considering where the main source of pearls was at this time, the pearls on the Aphrodite Pin were most likely found in the Persian Gulf.

The Aphrodite Pin is gold plated and is topped with a baroque pearl with a smaller pearl underneath it. There are different theories about the pearls. The bigger is said to be saltwater and the smaller, freshwater. However some scientists think that they are both from the same source and are both saltwater.
This pin can be found in the British Museum, given to them by the Cyprus Exploration Fund. It has traveled to many cities in the United States, including The American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
