Spring Cleaning for Your Favorite Pearls

It's a fact: the better you care for your pearls, the longer they will last.

spring-cleaning-jewelry-logoWe're entering Spring soon and what could be more perfect than Spring cleaning your favorite pearls? It's a fact: the better you care for your pearls, the longer they will last.

If you dream of handing down your favorite set of pearls to your granddaughter on her wedding day, take the steps now to care for them properly. You'll have that magic moment!

The little pearl care steps you take each day actually matter a lot. You might think, "it doesn't matter if I leave my pearl necklace by my bedside" or "I'll just take off my pearl necklace before I take off my makeup" - but DON'T! Every time you take that extra moment to take care of your pearls, it makes a great difference. Pearls are a natural gemstone and they are sensitive to their environment. They will pick up what they rub on or what is sprayed near them. Tiny care steps today mean beautiful pearls for tomorrow.

One of our best pearl care steps is "first on and first off." Put your pearls on before your makeup and hair care products. Take your pearls off before you remove your makeup and hair care products. This alone can make a tremendous difference.

Let Spring be a reminder to have your pearls checked for possible restringing. This is a Spring cleaning tip we often will neglect, because we love wearing our pearls and don't want to stop wearing them - even for a short while! But taking them to your favorite jeweler to be checked and possibly restrung can make a great difference. It can mean long lasting pearls for you and the coming generations.

Always have a special keepsake place for your favorite pearls. Pearls are gentle and need to be stored in their own location. A small jewelry box dedicated to your pearl jewelry can be an ideal choice. Or a natural cloth gently wrapping your pearl jewelry while in your current jewelry box is another option for you to consider. Your pearl jewelry needs a place it belongs at the end of the day. Take that extra moment and put it back so you know it is safe. Safe from any particles that could stick to them. Safe from an adorable toddler's grabbing hands. Safe from a pet who could play or even chew on them. Or simply safe from you misplacing them!

Consider having your pearl jewelry actually cleaned for Spring cleaning. Some pearl jewelry can easily be cleaned with a small touch of warm water and gentle cotton cloth. But ask your jeweler for guidance before cleaning your lovely pearl jewelry. Better to use the correct application - and your jeweler may have some specific advice we can't give - as we can't see your exact piece of pearl jewelry in this moment!

Spring cleaning is a wonderful ritual. Everything all new and fresh. Let your pearl jewelry sparkle and shine, looking as lovely as ever. Enjoy your beautiful pearls!
