Princess Diana & John Travolta DancingMany remember “shy Di,” holding onto Prince Charles’ hand during the announcement of their engagement. What an amazing sight to see the stunning Princess Diana appear in the flirtatious black dress that turned every head during a London charity event. According to the Associated Press, this dress helped the soon to be bride become a fashion icon – although some thought the dress was a bold choice.

Princess Diana was known for dressing in the “Sloane Ranger” style popular with ladies of her social set. Of course, this included wearing one’s favorite pearls. And then a skirt and a buttoned up cardigan. A very classic and understated look. Certainly no strapless or body hugging clothing there. Although we do understand and appreciate her love of pearls!

The museum in Chile paid nearly 200,000 pounds for the dress, much higher than the original estimate for the lovely dress Princess Diana once turned heads in.

Princess Diana is certainly known for being a fashion icon and a trendsetter. While often choosing lovely classic clothing, her exquisite taste seemed to pick dresses and fashions that seemed uniquely chosen to suit only her. And of course there were so many times we saw Princess Diana compliment her fashions with lovely pearls.

Many remember Princess Diana wearing pearl earrings. Whether wearing button pearl earrings or pearl drop earrings, this sweet and romantic style always complimented the Princess easily. The pearls’ radiant lustre shone and let the Princess’ natural beauty show through. Pearls are the natural gemstone of the sea and a symbol of love and sentiment. It is easy to see why Princess Diana would select pearls to wear often for public appearances, charity balls and social gatherings.
