Teenage girls love jewelry. With lots of special events like school dances, parties, proms and other celebrations – there are many places they can easily wear pearl earrings.
A pair of pearl earrings has long been considered one of the most classic pieces of real jewelry a young woman would receive. But is your teenage daughter ready for pearl earrings? Here are some ways to tell:
Does she have her ears pierced already? This is a good indicator to let you know how she takes care of jewelry. When a teenage girl first gets her ears pierced she receives a pair of 18 carat gold studs. While this is not the fanciest of jewelry, it is real jewelry and not costume jewelry. Has she taken care of them or kept them? Did she care for her ears as they were pierced, cleaning her ears daily to avoid infection? These are all good indicators to help you decide if she is ready for pearl earrings.
If your daughter does not have her ears pierced, look at the way she has cared for some of her other belongings. Many teens today have laptop computers, mp3 players, cell phones and other valuable items. Notice how she has taken care of each of these items. The teenage girl who cares well for her laptop computer and other items would likely care well for her pearl earrings.
Sometimes your daughter really wants pearl earrings but you aren’t sure if this is an age appropriate gift. Check with the mothers of her friends to see if they too are receiving pearl earrings and other jewelry to help you decide. You can also speak to your local jewelry store.
A teenage girl should be shown how to care for her pearl earrings. This is very important so that her pearl earrings last a long time. Pearl earrings need to be kept separately from other jewelry so the delicate pearls are protected from potential scratching. The pearl earrings also need to be kept in a cool and dry place. Ideally your teenage daughter should keep them in a separate jewelry box, apart from her other jewelry. Remind her to put the pearl earrings in that jewelry box when she takes them off. Give her a trinket container for the bathroom so she can remove her pearls before she takes off her makeup or does her hair. Pearls are delicate and should be treated gently.
Most teenage girls can enjoy a pair of pearl earrings for daytime and special occasions. This pair of pearl earrings will be treasured by her and remembered as a lovely gift.
