As
women who love fashion and want to be elegant above all, it is no surprise that
we saw pearl necklaces on a queen’s neck first. In the past and in the present,
female royalty are considered celebrities. These women have understood that
they are fashion icons while still fulfilling their duties of leading figures
in behavior and official responsibilities. So when we talk about celebrities and pearls we should begin
with the most faithful fans of the pearls, the queens.
The
air of ultimate sophistication and elegancy is without a doubt given by a
necklace of exquisite pearls. Celebrities
and pearls are tightly bound together. Take for example the British royal
women. We could talk for a while about the famous pearls worn by these amazing
British queens.
In the golden époque of the British Empire, pearls were only
permitted to be worn by the queen. It was known that pearls became so popular
among the queens that Anne Boleyn used a big pearl necklace to cover a sensible
defect on her neck. Furthermore, Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria were famous for
their passion about the beauty, the elegancy and at the same time the purity
given by pearls.
Some famous pearls are on display in museums today since these have been handmade for the queens. In terms of celebrities and pearls we are inclined to think about the most exquisite pearl of all time, “La Peregrina”. This piece of jewelry was first worn by Queen Mary and eventually made it to another big fan of pearls, Elizabeth Taylor.
Throughout history, pearls have been considered by the queens as a symbol of virtue, elegancy and even virginity as Queen Elizabeth I much wanted to display to her subjects. Her collection of pearl jewelry is unique in the world and all her descendents loved and desired to wear her pearls.
Even today, pearls are extremely popular among the royals. Queen Elizabeth was seen at the Royal Wedding on April 29th wearing a pearl necklace, along with many other guests that attended!
