Many remember and love the hit television series Leave It To
Beaver. TV parents June and Ward Cleaver were considered the classic 1950’s
parents.
The actress Barbara Billingsley who played June Cleaver has died at 94 this October.
June Cleaver was the “perfect” stay at home mom who wore pearls even while vacuuming or baking cookies for her children, according to the LA Times. There was a reason she wore her pearls all the time – Billingsley had a distinctive hollow spot in her neck. The lovely pearls complimented this beautiful actor and carefully concealed her hollow spot during the television show. Best of all, wearing her pearls all the time showed June Cleaver to be a refined and graceful woman. It’s easy to see that an elegant woman would be comfortable wearing her pearls anywhere and everywhere – something we’ve said before.
June Cleaver was always well dressed and stylish. As a stay at home housewife she dressed in pretty dresses, high heels and pearls most of the time. The actress Billingsley described her to the LA Times as “the ideal mother.” Certainly many watching the show or who think of this show consider June Cleaver to be that very ideal mother.
Billingsley’s fans fondly remember her appearance in the 1980 movie Airplane. She appeared at first very mild mannered and then began to “jive talk” with fellow passengers.
How many women have captured June Cleaver’s timeless style and classic elegance during their daily life? To wear pearls in the daytime and dress your very best – is a great way to enjoy the day. Mrs. Cleaver was so great at wearing pretty dresses. But today’s June Cleaver would probably be just as at home in a pair of well tailored jeans or dress pants. The key is fine tailoring.
