If you have a teenager, you
know prom season is just around the corner!
According to the TorontoSun.com, celebrity dresses make a big impact on the latest prom styles for girls. From accessories to the outfit, what the celebrities choose often inspires future prom looks that teens look forward to.
One of the top looks for the prom this season is the vintage 1980’s style. This has teen girls looking for bright and lacy dresses from that era in vintage stores or their mother’s closets they could wear for their prom. Ruffles and shoulder pads were very popular then.
Pearls are also a popular style for prom. From the 1980’s Madonna brought us pearls worn in long ropes or many pearl necklaces at once. These fun styles are ideal for your pearl jewelry for prom. Try updating this trend into the new millennium by using a deep or pale color pearl for a new look that gets lots of attention. If the 80’s are the style you choose, why not update it a bit to create your own trendsetting style?
Madonna was a 1980’s icon with blonde streaked hair often tied back with a lace bow. Volume hair that is wild and curly seems to be the ideal style for your hair, offering teen girls a very natural look.
If you are borrowing your mother’s pearls for the prom we have some tips for you:
Put them on first and take them off first. Always put on pearls before applying hairspray, mousse or makeup. These tiny particles can damage pearls. Use this same thought when taking pearls off first, as those tiny particles can damage pearls as you take them off while you are removing your makeup or hair care products.
Pay attention
to any tips your mother gives you about the pearl jewelry. If she says
the clasp gets stuck sometimes or you need to pull and then push, these
things are important. Fine jewelry needs to be handled gently, far more
gently than costume jewelry. While it is put together with strong
materials you want to treat this beautiful jewelry with gentle care and
the respect it deserves.
Ask your mother where you should put the pearls when you come home. One of the biggest challenges a pearl lover will face is putting their pearls down “somewhere” and then forgetting where they are. Avoid this mishap and put them exactly in the place Mom suggests.
To be permitted to borrow Mom’s pearls is a sign of respect and trust. It is a sign of confidence that she would lend you her pearls. Take good care of them and likely she’ll trust you with other things or let you borrow the pearls again.
Say, “Thank You” in a special way to Mom for letting you borrow her pearls. Buy her a bouquet of flowers or give her a card. Or make her something if you are the crafty type. Or just write her a thoughtful note telling her how much you enjoyed wearing them at the prom. Be sure to get your photo taken wearing them so Mom sees how beautiful you looked!
Enjoy the prom!
