Many remember seeing the lovely Marilyn Monroe wearing her even
lovelier pearls given to her by baseball great Joe DiMaggio. According
to the ProfessionalJeweller.com, the necklace was a honeymoon gift as
the couple traveled to Japan in 1954.
While Monroe and DiMaggio did eventually divorce, she continued to wear the necklace saying it reminded her of happy times. Monroe later gave the necklace to her friend Paula Strasberg, wife of her acting coach Lee Strasberg. When Monroe died in 1962, Strasberg gave the Akoya pearl necklace to her daughter Susan saying that the beautiful and famous actress would have wanted her to have it.
This lovely necklace of Marilyn Monroe will be on display during the Bond Street Culture & Heritage Week from June 7th through the 13th. The Akoya pearl necklace will be displayed in its original oval leather box lined with velvet. The display is brought to the public by Mikimoto.
What a lovely sight to see Marilyn Monroe’s famous pearls. A set of pearls known for a very romantic time in history, for Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio’s honeymoon and romance. For pearl lovers this is certainly something that is not to be missed. Any pearl lover will certainly be eager to get to Bond Street to see Monroe’s lovely pearls.
These pearl sightings are quite often one of a kind and simply don’t happen every day. While some pearls are owned by museums or collections open to the public, some pearls from history are owned by private collectors or families and won’t be visible to the public at all time. When a unique opportunity such as this arises, you simply have to do your best to go see these lovely Akoya pearls.
Just imagine that the very same pearls you see are the ones that Marilyn Monroe wore and that Joe DiMaggio gave her. That you are seeing something fascinating and unique from popular culture history. The thought can give pearl lovers a bit of a chill down their spine with the excitement from it all.
We think this occasion calls for wearing your favorite pearls as well. Why it is exactly what Marilyn herself would do if she was visiting this type of exhibit! Put on your favorite outfit and beloved pearls – and spritz on some Chanel No.5 (Marilyn’s favorite perfume) and you’re ready to see these pearls. Enjoy the exhibit!
