Prince William & Kate MiddletonLast week Prince William’s girlfriend received a lovely pair of antique pearl earrings for her birthday. It was reported widely that her dog had digested them and that the earrings were retrieved later. According to the Telegraph.co.uk and other sources, this "dog bandit" story is not correct.

Otto the cocker spaniel apparently was in Yorkshire during the missing earrings escapade. So it would be impossible for the adorable pooch to snatch and swallow the lovely pearl earrings even if he somehow thought they were a tasty treat.

The Telegraph.co.uk does not share the story of what happened to Miss Middleton’s earrings leaving us to wonder if she did find her antique pearl earrings or if they are still missing. We do hope that she found them especially as they were a birthday gift from Prince William. What could be more lovely than the gift of a pair of pearl earrings picked out by someone you love?

Don’t let your pearl jewelry go astray. While we all lead busy lives it is important to stay organized and always put your pearl jewelry away in the same place every night. This one single tip will do more for helping you keep track of your pearl jewelry. Try keeping your pearl jewelry in a jewelry box dedicated to pearl jewelry only. Your pearl jewelry shouldn’t rub up against other types of jewelry as this can cause fine scratches or other challenges for your fine and delicate pearl jewelry. It is good to keep in mind that pearl jewelry is created from pearls, the world’s natural gemstones of the sea. These lovely natural gemstones need to be treated with a bit of extra TLC. Treated with extra care, they can lead long lasting lives. You can look forward to passing your pearl jewelry down to your granddaughter for her wedding day for her “something borrowed” or “something old.”

Another important tip to keep in mind is to have your pearl jewelry restrung every year. Check with your jeweler for the exact time frame for when you should have your pearl jewelry restrung. For many this will be an annual occurrence. Getting your pearl jewelry restrung ensures it is on strong threads that keep every pearl very safe and secure. We’ve all seen those fun and dramatic scenes in the movies where someone yanks a pearl necklace and they all spill to the floor. This frustration of losing one’s pearls makes a great movie scene but not something for your real life.

Always be sure to put on your pearl jewelry before applying makeup or hair spray and then to take your pearl jewelry off before taking off clothing or makeup and hair spray. This simple tip will keep your pearls safe from the fine particles that can become attracted to them from your makeup or hair spray.

Take good care of your pearls – and they’ll last you a long time!
