AkoyaNeckThe first saltwater pearls to be cultured successfully came from the Akoya pearl oyster.  Since the 1930s Akoyas have been the world's best known pearls. Often round and spherical, they  come in a variety of shapes and sizes (2-10mm). Their colors are subtle and rich – a palette of ivory, cream, rose, silver, gold and leaf green.

Cultivated in the relatively cool seas of Japan and China, the Akoya pearl oyster (Pinctada fucata) reacts to seasonal changes, producing nacre of intense luminosity. This gives the pearls a distinctive brilliant luster.  A long-time favorite of designers, the Akoya is a fashion and bridal classic, and the traditional collectible - one pearl for every special occasion.
